Forts of Maharashtra

JANJIRA: THE UNCONQUERED FORT
The fort is located at Murud, on the coastline of Maharashtra. Janjira is an Arabic word pronounced as Jazeera which means an island. It was established in the early 15th century by a koli king and later, it was conquered by Nizamshahi's of Ahmednagar. The Nizamshahi's made an alliance with the Siddhi's(Siddi were African tribes) to control the fort. Hence, it was known as Siddhi's of Janjira. The Marathas, Mughals, Adilshahi's and the western emperors tried capturing the fort, but could not succeed at it. 
The fort has two ponds for drinking water, a tomb of and three bastions namely
 Kalal Bangdi, Landa Kasam and Chavri.
Khanderi fort
The fort is located at Thal, Alibagh on the coastline of Maharashtra. The fort was built in 1679 under the leadership of Maynak Bhandari. Khanderi along with her twin sister Underi were watch keepers used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to attack the enemies. Today, the fort comprises of wells, a temple of sri betal and an Octagonal Lighthouse.  
Madh Fort
The fort is located in Madh island, Mumbai. It was built in the 17th century, by the Portuguese to carry their trades and business from various parts of the world.
 Later, they lost it from the Marathas in the 18th century
The fort was used as a watch keeper to keep an eye on the enemies. 
Today, the fort is under the control of Indian Airforce and is not open publicly.
Kolaba Fort
The fort is located at Alibagh, Maharashtra and it was built in the year 1680. It was a naval station used to collaborate with the nearby watch keeper forts. The fort had 300+ canyons and was used as an armour to fight against Janjira of murud. The command of the fort was given to Maynak Bhandari under whom the fort became the center of maratha attacks. Today, the fort is a tourist attraction site comprising of 
temples and lakes. 

Sewri Fort
The fort was built by the British in 16th century to support their trades from England
It is located at Mumbai
Historians describes this fort as an outbreak of multiple wars among
 Siddhis, British, Portuguese and French
However, all of them failed to conquer it and since then, the fort was left unconquered.
Today, the fort is surrounded by societies and is not under working condition.
